LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. actors Chris Hemsworth and Clifton Collins Jr. have been hired for supporting roles in "Star Trek," the J.J. Abrams prequel that began shooting last week.

Hemsworth will portray Captain Kirk's father, George, while Collins will play Ayel, cohort to the villain Nero, who will be played by Eric Bana, Variety.com reported Wednesday.

The movie also stars Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and Winona Ryder.

Hemsworth recently completed work on the independent film, "The Cache."

Collins' credits include the upcoming low-budget movies "The Perfect Game," "Horsemen," "Sunshine Cleaning" and "Still Waters."
