NASHVILLE, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Devotees of U.S. television and pop music star Miley Cyrus are suing her fan club for not making good on a promise to help get them tickets to Cyrus' concerts.
A class-action lawsuit filed in Tennessee against Interactive Media Marketing and Smiley Miley Inc. claims the companies promised fan club members access to concert tickets, even though they knew there wouldn't be enough to go around, People.com reported.
Many members paid $29.95 to join the fan club so they could buy the hard-to-get ducats.
"They deceptively lured thousands of individuals into purchasing memberships into the Miley Cyrus fan club, and that's why we're suing," lawyer Rob Pierce said.
But a spokesman for the "Hannah Montana" star said in a statement that 70,000-plus Mileyworld members bought tickets through the fan club. "The Mileyworld Web site expressly states that Mileyworld does not guarantee every member a concert ticket," the spokesman said.
"Mileyworld members had far greater access to concert tickets than the general public and other fan clubs and the claim that the vast majority of Mileyworld members were unable to obtain concert tickets is simply false. Mileyworld will vigorously defend itself from the frivolous claims in the lawsuit."
