LONDON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The husband of British singer Amy Winehouse has been arrested in England in connection with an alleged scheme to fix a trial.

Winehouse was with Blake Fielder-Civil in an East London apartment when police arrested him Thursday night.

The Mirror reported she was hysterical and cried, "I want to go with him."

The arrest came hours after 10 police officers used a battering ram to smash down the front door of the couple's home in Camden, North London.

Winehouse's mother-in-law, Georgette, told the newspaper, "She's totally distraught and too upset to talk."

The Mirror tipped cops to an alleged plot to stop an upcoming trial, in which Fielder-Civil and friend Michael Brown are accused of beating a barman.

The scheme apparently involved paying the victim more than $400,000 to withdraw his statement and drop the charges.
