Snipes requests venue change for tax trial

OCALA, Fla., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes has requested a change of venue for his tax-evasion trial so he stands a better chance of getting a racially diverse jury.

Snipes is seeking to move the trial from Ocala, Fla., a town he describes as a "hotbed" for Ku Klux Klan activity, South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com reported Thursday.

He and his lawyer filed a motion in federal court claiming the government chose the Ocala Federal Courthouse as a venue because it offered the "best possibility of an all-white southern jury."

Snipes was indicted for tax-evasion, along with others in the case, last year.

Best-known for starring in the "Blade" trilogy, as well as "Murder at 1600, "White Men Can't Jump" and "Jungle Fever," Snipes has only worked occasionally during the past few years.
