LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. soap opera actor Justin Bruening is set to star in NBC's new "Knight Rider" movie based on the 1980s series, the New York Daily News said Monday.

Best-known for his work on "All My Children," Bruening will play the son of Michael Knight, the character David Hasselhoff portrayed on the series about an undercover cop who gets a new face, identity and talking Trans Am after he is shot in the face.

Bruening's other acting credits include appearances on "One Life To Live," "Cold Case" and "Hope & Faith."

His new TV movie is expected to air later this season, Zap2it.com reported.

Like Bruening, Hasselhoff also made the transition from soap star to prime-time crime-fighter; he started out on "The Young and the Restless" before starring in "Knight Rider" and then "Baywatch."
