NEW YORK, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Radio personality Don Imus is set to return to the airwaves with a new morning show on New York's WABC-AM next month, TMZ.com reported Thursday.

Imus was fired from his nationally syndicated WFAN show by CBS Radio in April for making a racist and sexist joke about members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

The out-spoken commentator publicly apologized for the offensive remarks but still lost his job.

"We are ecstatic to bring Don Imus back to morning radio. Don's unique brand of humor, knowledge of the issues and ability to attract big-name guests is unparalleled. He is rested, fired up and ready to do great radio," WABC President Steve Borneman said Thursday.

Imus is expected to start his new job Dec. 3.
