Fake Ramsey suspect Karr engaged

NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- The Georgia man who falsely claimed he was with JonBenet Ramsey when she died is now engaged to the mother of a 3-year-old girl.

John Mark Karr caused a media storm last year when he made a confession regarding the unsolved slaying of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet. However, DNA established he had nothing to do with Ramsey’s death.

Karr is now engaged to 23-year-old Brooke Simmons, who wrote to Karr's family after seeing him on the news. Simmons told "Inside Edition" she has asked Karr about JonBenet, but still doesn't know the whole story.

"I have asked some questions about the case … I don't know myself…There are things that I don't want to necessarily ask," she said.

Karr and Simmons also discussed reports Karr took hormones to prepare for a sex change.

"That was true at the time…I don't have any plans for that right now…(Brooke) wants me to stay the same and I'm willing to do that," Karr said to "Inside Edition."

Simmons admitted her relationship with Karr has caused a rift with her family, stating: "This is something that is very tough and not very good. I am sorry for any stress and anything that has come down on them."
