Laurie suffering from 'mild depression'

SYDNEY, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Award-winning British actor Hugh Laurie admits that playing his brilliant, ill-tempered character on television's "House" can be exhausting.

"I can't switch off," Laurie told The Sunday Telegraph. "I'm always thinking about the show. I'm too neurotic and anal and too convinced we're going to fail to relax. Every show we do is a disaster, I'm convinced of it. I go home and my head is full of all the mistakes I've made.'"

Laurie admitted the role leaves him feeling "drained" and revealed he occasionally sees a therapist to help him cope with his "mild depression."

In addition to the long work days and challenging material, Laurie's job on "House" also requires him to live in Los Angeles while his wife and three children are at home in London.

"I never dreamt I'd be here three-and-a-half-years later," he said, noting how few pilots actually get made into series. "But I do go back and forth as much as possible, as do my wife and kids."
