BRIGHTON, England, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A 22-year-old photographer has used politically provocative photos of herself to win British art collector Charles Saatchi's first "art idol" competition.
The Independent on Sunday said that Sarah Maple won the artistic competition, judged by gallery owner Sadie Coles and sculptor Antony Gormley, due to her unusual "Vote for Me" photographic series.
Maple had photographed herself dressed in outfits ranging from a Playboy bunny to an traditional Arabic head covering, all while holding a sign reading " Vote for Me -- or else you're sexist/homophobic."
The artist said Saturday her artistic works have upset some people due to their directed attacks on political correctness.
"I got an angry response from some people," Maple said. "It was good to get a reaction, but I do think PC is daft."
Yet the winner of the competition, that started with hundreds of hopeful applicants, told the newspaper she will likely soon change her ways.
