WGA: AMPTP demands more rollbacks

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The Writers Guild of America said Friday it had agreed to several contract proposals by producers, but said producers responded with new calls for rollbacks.

The WGA said it had responded Friday to Thursday's proposal from Hollywood studios, producers and TV networks by agreeing to "several of their proposals" and withdrawing or modifying some guild proposals "to narrow the areas in dispute."

The WGA said it proposed "a smaller working group" to address enforcement issues.

"The (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) caucused for more than four hours (Friday) and returned with a package that included new rollbacks related to our pension and health funds," the WGA said late Friday. "They rejected our modified proposals and ignored our working group offer."

The guild said the AMPTP "declined to meet again until Tuesday."

The existing contract covering Hollywood writers is set to expire Wednesday night.
