Doherty gets suspended sentence

LONDON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- British rocker Pete Doherty was given a suspended prison term for various drug and motor vehicle offenses, the BBC said Friday.

District Judge Davinder Lachar sentenced the Babyshambles front man to four months in jail, suspended for two years, when Doherty appeared at West London Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Doherty was also given an 18-month supervision order and a 12-month drug rehabilitation order and was instructed to pay a $974 fine for driving without insurance, the BBC said.

The singer admitted to driving while in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis in Kensington last spring.

He has since sought help for his addictions to drugs and alcohol and has completed in-patient rehabilitation.
