LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Former British model and activist Heather Mills has confirmed she needs surgery to fix a broken plate in her pelvis, Access Hollywood said Tuesday.

Mills, who is in the midst of a divorce from ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, told the show she will be undergoing surgery soon.

"I have had a broken plate," she said back-stage at Monday night's "Dancing with the Stars," the dance competition series on which she once competed.

"I had it when I danced here. I have had it for a while, but what happens is it shifts out sometimes, so it is kind of sliced in the middle," she told Access Hollywood.

Mills had the plate put in when she lost her leg in 1993 after a motorcycle crashed into her.
