Will Smith nervous about daughter dating
NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor John Cusack says one of the things that appealed to him about his new film, "Martian Child," is it explores the notion of what "normal" is.
In the movie, Cusack plays a lonely sci-fi writer who considers adopting an orphaned boy who says he is from Mars.
"I liked that he was ... kind of an artist and somewhat accomplished, but he was a little bit isolated," Cusack told reporters in New York Saturday.
"And the idea of wanting a little bit more in your life and wanting to find a deeper purpose, I think I can relate to, everybody can relate to," Cusack explained, adding he thought it was interesting his character related to a kid who found it difficult to fit in with others.
"(There's) the question of what's normal? How much should you try to fit in and be like other people? Or how much should you be yourself, even if you are considered eccentric... Would you want to give Einstein Ritalin? I don't know. Not that everybody is going to grow up to be a genius, but the idea of people's individuality versus conformity is a really big issue in life."
