8.3 million copies of 'Transformers' sold

LOS ANGELES , Oct. 23 (UPI) -- About 8.3 million copies of the Hollywood blockbuster "Transformers" have been sold during its first week on DVD, Variety.com said Tuesday.

The total includes copies sold to both consumers and rental stores in North America.

So far, "Transformers" is the the fastest-selling DVD of the year, even beating out top-selling DVDs like "Happy Feet," "300," "Night at the Museum" and "The Departed."

More than 4.5 million "Transformers" DVDs were sold last Tuesday, the first day it hit shelves, the trade paper said.

"Transformers" grossed more than $700 million at the worldwide box office and a sequel is in the works.
