LOS ANGELES , Oct. 19 (UPI) -- USA Network has announced it has ordered a series based on its wildly popular miniseries, "The Starter Wife," starring Debra Messing.

Messing, who is best-known for playing Grace on the NBC comedy, "Will & Grace," is set to star in and executive produce the new show, which was inspired by The New York Times best-selling novel by Gigi Levangie Grazer.

Grazer will also serve as executive producer on the life-after-divorce comedy, which follows Molly Kagan as she redefines herself after years of marriage to a Hollywood studio head.

The original miniseries earned 10 Emmy nominations.

"'The Starter Wife' was a major cultural event, and an out-of-the-park home run for us," Jeff Wachtel, executive vice president of original programming for USA, said in a statement. "We're thrilled to reunite Debra, Josie (McGibbon,) Sara (Parriott) and Gigi -- the world-class team of star and writers who were responsible for its success."
