LONDON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- British rock and roll icon Paul McCartney has offered to pay Heather Mills a divorce settlement of $51 million, the Mirror reported Wednesday.

Mills' legal team is said to be urging her to accept the deal.

McCartney initially offered to pay Mills between $6.1 million and $10.2 million.

As part of the newly proposed pact, Mills would get $51 million, but be required to keep quiet about her relationship with the former Beatle.

The two sides are "within touching distance" and could seal the deal by Friday, the newspaper said.

"There is no guarantee they will settle -- but it's the closest they've been," a source told the Mirror..

McCartney's fortune has been estimated at $1.7 billion.
