Lucas working on 'Star Wars' TV show

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood producer George Lucas recently began working on a live-action "Star Wars" TV series that focuses on minor characters from his blockbuster films.

The six "Star Wars" movies have grossed $4.3 billion in theaters worldwide.

Lucas concedes not making the show about Luke Skywalker or his father, Anakin, is "taking chances" as far as connecting with the established "Star Wars" audience, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"It's about minor characters," Lucas told the Times. "It has nothing to do with Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader or any of those people. It's completely different. But it's a good idea and it's going to be a lot of fun to do."

In addition to Lucas's movies, the "Star Wars" mythology has spawned Lucas-sanctioned novels, comics and games that chronicle the history of the Jedi and tell the tales of minor characters in the films.

Lucas Animation has also been working for months on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a computer-animated series he planned to produce through his own companies, then shop to networks.
