WINCHCOMBE, England, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar have not made an expected donation to the Gloucestershire parish where they were married earlier this year.
Hurley, a British model turned actress, wed Nayar at the 15th century Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe last March.
The wedding was formally blessed in the small chapel of St. Mary's at Sudeley by the local vicar.
Now, members of the parish are grousing that no donation was made, the Independent said.
Rupert Chislett, vice-chairman of the Friends of Winchcombe, observed, "It does seem to be a slightly grubby case of penny-pinching."
"We do normally charge a fee before a wedding. There are a number of costs we have to cover," said Sue Williams, the parish treasurer. "The bill normally would be in the region of $2,000. I suppose we were hoping for a bit more than that, but we haven't received a penny from them."
A spokesman for Hurley said the millionaire couple has commissioned "a dozen, hand-embroidered kneelers" for St. Mary's.
"Given the choice, we would prefer the money," Williams said. "We need money to pay the gas bill, for new hymn books and a new boiler. Kneelers aren't very high on our list of priorities."
