LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Troubled pop singer Britney Spears surrendered at the Van Nuys, Calif., Community Police Station where she was booked for misdemeanor driving offenses.

The charges stem from an Aug. 6 incident in which she allegedly hit another car in a Studio City parking lot.

The accident was captured on video, CNN reported.

Spears arrived at the police station Monday night and was there about 45 minutes while she was booked on misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run and driving without a valid California driver license, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Mike Lopez told CNN.

Each count carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
