LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- French filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have signed on to write and direct a remake of the horror film classic "Hellraiser," Variety.com reported.

Dimension Films, which recently scored a hit with a remake of "Halloween," is behind the new version of Clive Barker's 1987 horror flick.

Barker will serve as producer on the new film, the trade paper said.

"Julien and Alex showed their incredible creative talent on 'Inside' and I'm excited to have them at the helm, working with Clive Barker, to create a fresh, suspenseful and scary reimagining of the classic tale," said Weinstein Co. Co-chairman Bob Weinstein.

TWC has picked up distribution rights to the thriller the protagonist of which is a pregnant woman haunted by a mysterious woman after her boyfriend dies in a car wreck.

The movie was released last summer in France.
