Bratt to star in A&E pilot

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Benjamin Bratt has signed on to star in "The Cleaner," a pilot for the A&E Network, the Hollywood Reporter said.

A&E is also negotiating with David Semel to direct and executive produce the pilot. Semel has directed the pilots for "Heroes," "Life" and "American Dreams."

In the show, Bratt would play a man who hits rock bottom, goes to prison, kicks his addictions and forms a team dedicated to helping others battle their addictions by any means necessary, while he also tries to reunite with his wife and kids, the entertainment industry trade paper said.

"He just switched from one addiction to another -- saving people," said Jonathan Prince, who created "The Cleaner" with Robert Munic. "We see him go from the darkest of times to becoming a God-avenging angel."

Best-known for his work on television's "Law & Order," Bratt has also starred in the NBC series "E-Ring" and will be seen in A&E's upcoming miniseries, "The Andromeda Strain," as well as the feature film, "Love in the Time of Cholera."
