Myth explored in new Hendrix features

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- New projects coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the “Summer of Love” provide deeper insights into American guitar icon Jimi Hendrix.

Janie Hendrix, the late rocker’s half-sister and chief executive officer of Experience Hendrix, which fosters the star’s legacy, is launching “Jimi Hendrix: An Illustrated Experience” to highlight the man behind the myth.

The archival exploration into the life of Jimi Hendrix features some of his personal diary entries, original drawings, handwritten lyrics and previously unreleased photos, as well as 70 minutes of rare tracks and interviews, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Jimi Hendrix, who died Sept. 18, 1970, at 27, obtained mythical status as a guitar hero during his brief career at the apex of the hippie counter-culture.

A documentary detailing Hendrix’s legendary performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival is scheduled for release Tuesday.

Janie Hendrix told the Times that further works are scheduled for 2008 documenting a Hendrix concert at England’s Royal Albert Hall in February 1969.

“This is him as he was, with his guard down and on the road,” Jaine Hendrix said.
