Rapper under house arrest now on book tour

NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Rap artist C-Murder has left Louisiana, where he was under house arrest, to promote a book in Mississippi, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

The 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller, has been under house arrest for more than two years while awaiting retrial on a murder charge.

A date has not yet been set for his retrial.

Miller is accused of killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas during a fight in a Harvey nightclub in 2002.

He also is charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder in Baton Rouge, where he is accused of trying to shoot two people at a nightclub in 2001.

Miller left his Jefferson Parish home Wednesday for a 15-stop tour in Hinds County to talk about his novel, "Death Around the Corner," the newspaper said.

It is unclear whether he had permission to leave the state, the report added.

In the past, he has been allowed to give interviews and promote his albums; however, he is barred from discussing the murder case.

He is allowed to leave his house on certain days and for work elsewhere in Louisiana, but this is the first time he has left the state.
