'The Boondocks' launches season two

NEW YORK, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- The animated series, "The Boondocks," offering a satirical commentary on black America, is slated for its second season this year.

The series, based on the Aaron McGruder comic strip of the same name, is part of the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup for Monday nights.

"The Boondocks" is a dark satirical look at black cultural life that pokes fun at itself as well as outsiders who at times disparage the community.

It earned a nomination for the 2006 NAACP Image Award to the delight of McGruder, who takes a no-holds-barred approach to social commentary, the Los Angeles Times notes.

The premier, airing Oct. 8 at 11:30 p.m., hits the ground running with an episode parodying the 2004 "Soul Plane," featuring a barrage of bleeped expletives.

The rapper Snoop Dogg, who also appeared in the "Soul Plane" film, guest stars in the season premier.

Others featured this season include rapper Busta Rhymes, PBS's Tavis Smiley, and comedian Cedric the Entertainer, reports Editor & Publisher.
