Radiohead’s new album, "In Rainbows," can be purchased only through www.radiohead.com. It is being released without record label support and marketed by word of mouth.
Fans can order the digital download at any price they choose or pay nearly $80 for a more traditional "discbox" collection that includes two CDs, two records, plus artwork and booklets, the BBC said.
The digital album will be available Oct. 10, while the discbox will be out Dec. 3.
Demand for the album was so great Monday, the Web site went down. However, the band's spokesman, Murray Chalmers, told the BBC Wednesday that it is again running.
Chalmers also said that most fans were ordering the discbox, while very few were taking the cheap route.
"Although the idea is that you can decide what you want to pay, most people are deciding on a normal retail price with very few trying to buy it for a penny," he said to the BBC.
