LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Natalie Portman has signed on to star in "Brothers," a Hollywood remake of Susanne Bier's 2004 Danish-language film "Brodre," Variety.com has said.

The movie is about a soldier (Tobey Maguire) sent to fight in Afghanistan while his black-sheep brother (Jake Gyllenhaal) looks out for his wife and child.

Set to begin shooting next month, the film will be directed by Jim Sheridan.

Portman will soon be seen in the films "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "My Blueberry Nights."
