LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Production on the long-gestating Hollywood film, "Killing Pablo," could begin by next June, Zap2it.com reported.

Javier Bardem is expected to play former, real-life drug kingpin Pablo Escobar in the film adaptation of Mark Bowden's book.

Bowden is writing the screenplay, while "White Jazz" and "Smokin' Aces" filmmaker Joe Carnahan is set to direct.

"Batman Begins" star Christian Bale is in talks to play Maj. Steve Jacoby, part of the military team that hunted the drug cartel leader down.

Development on "Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw," began nearly five years ago.
