OCALA, Fla., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Actor John Travolta is in the midst of a dispute with Florida's Greystone Airport over whether he could -- or should -- land his Boeing 707 on an aging runway.
The Hollywood star and part-time aviator bought land that came with access to the runway at Greystone in the Jumbolair fly-in community near Ocala years ago, The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville reported Tuesday.
Although inspections have since revealed the runway to be unsafe, Travolta commissioned his own $20,000 engineering report, which declared the runway safe for large aircraft.
Travolta had planned to land his Boeing 707 near his Ocala home Tuesday night, flying in for the first time since February.
"John Travolta will be using the runway," said Michael McDermott, an attorney representing the actor.
But the owner of the private airport maintained the runway is old and the actor's heavy planes would cause the surface to crack.
"They can't come in here," said Jim Garemore, owner and manager of Greystone Airport. "They would need the FAA to sign off on it, to take the restriction off the aircraft. I say it's no, and that's the way I'm going to publicize it."
Garemore then vowed, "I'll call the FAA."
