'Lonesome Dove' prequel to air this winter

LOS ANGELES , Oct. 1 (UPI) -- "Comanche Moon," the Hollywood prequel to the immensely successful TV miniseries "Lonesome Dove," is slated to air on CBS this winter.

The new six-hour miniseries will be broadcast Dec. 30, Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, Zap2it.com reported Monday.

Oscar-winning scribes Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana adapted McMurtry's novel, while Emmy Award-winning "Lonesome Dove" Simon Wincer directed the project.

In the new installments, Karl Urban and Steve Zahn play younger versions of the characters Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall portrayed in the 1989 miniseries.

The cast also includes Val Kilmer, Rachel Griffiths, Linda Cardellini, Elizabeth Banks and Wes Studi.
