LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- The distinctive voice of 1980s television icon Mr. T is now available as a digital download for car navigation systems, Navtones announced.
The download of Mr. T's voice is compatible with all TomTom navigation systems and available in two configurations -- the standard version, which delivers the right directions with straight, no-nonsense style, and the funny version, which features some of T's "unmistakable charm" along the ride, Navtones said.
The company points out that voice plays an essential role in GPS navigation systems by allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
"Most people don't recognize the importance of voice desirability until it's too late and they're on the road with the device barking out banal commands every two hundred yards," Will Andre, CEO of Navtones, said in a statement.
"Navtones is about entertainment and choice, and when poking at the GPS display at Best Buy, people should ask themselves if they can live, on a daily basis, with this off-the-shelf voice uttering monotone directions from their dash."
Other Navtones celebrity downloads include Dennis Hopper and Burt Reynolds.
