NEW YORK, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. television personality Whoopi Goldberg blasted two ABC news anchors for the way they reported the death of French mime Marcel Marceau earlier this week.
Goldberg made the remarks Monday on "The View," the TV show she moderates, which also airs on ABC.
Describing how Marceau was "the greatest mime of his time" and a "huge influence" on how she performs, Goldberg said she was moved to speak out about the way Taina Hernandez and Ryan Owens presented the news of Marceau's death on their ABC World News Now program.
"It was so disrespectful and it was so poorly handled by the two anchors," Goldberg said. "If you are a news person and you don't understand the person you are talking about, don't make fun of them."
Hernandez and Owens previously came under fire for laughing through a report about actor Owen Wilson's suicide attempt last month. They later issued an on-air apology.
