LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Hollywood stars Ray Liotta, Esai Morales and Valerie Cruz have signed on to act in "La Linea," a movie inspired by the life of druglord Arellano Felix.

Andy Garcia is in early talks to play the role of an ailing Tijuana drug kingpin whose hot-headed lieutenant (Morales) takes control of the operation, the Hollywood Reporter said Monday.

Liotta will play an LA hit-man, while Cruz will play a Tijuana meth addict battling to stay sober so she can care for her daughter.

Armand Assante, Joe Morton, Danny Trejo, Kevin Cage and Jason Connery are in negotiations to join the ensemble cast, the trade paper said.

To be directed by "Demon Slayer" and "Sugar Creek" director James Cotten, the picture is to begin shooting on Oct. 16 in Los Angeles and Tijuana.
