LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Alan Rosenberg is still president of the Screen Actors' Guild, thanks to a narrow victory this week in Los Angeles over fellow actor Seymour Cassel.

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday that by garnering 47 percent of 24,834 ballots this week, Rosenberg was able to retain his presidency and put an end to a bitterly-fought electoral race.

Both actors had been the focus of various criticisms during their campaigns, including allegations of volatile personalities and misrepresentations.

But when the votes were finally tallied on Thursday and Rosenberg's 11,631 votes bested Cassel's 10,921, the SAG chief offered praise to his rival for a well-fought campaign.

"I'm really gratified that the members have chosen to allow me to continue the work I'm doing on behalf of the guild (and) I promise to continue to fight like hell for them," Rosenberg told the Reporter. "I also want to congratulate (the other candidates) for a hard-fought campaign, and I hope we can all work together on behalf of the members."
