'Heroes' book in the works

NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A new book based on the hit U.S. television series "Heroes" will explore character Hiro's doomed romance with Charlie the waitress.

The couple shared only a few moments of screen time last season before Charlie (Jayma Mays) was murdered by a serial killer. However, part of the show's plot line is that Hiro (Masi Oka) is able to move back and forth in time and was able to spend several months with Charlie before she died.

Del Rey, an imprint of Ballantine Books at the Random House Publishing Group, has announced plans to publish "Heroes: Saving Charlie" by Aury Wallington, with copies to hit the stores Dec. 26.

"One of the more memorable relationships in Season One was Hiro's first love, the waitress Charlie," said Tim Kring, the NBC show's creator-executive producer.

"We were as smitten as Hiro by that story and seized the chance to tell the full adventure of Hiro's six months in the past. Aury Wallington was hand-picked by the writers of the show for her brilliant voice for these characters. The novel is a welcome addition to the 'Heroes' family."

Season 2 of "Heroes" is set to begin Sept. 24 on NBC.
