Vieira unsure about war assignments

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. TV personality Meredith Vieira says she has never turned down an assignment in a dangerous location, but admits it is tough deciding whether to go.

The former moderator of "The View" is celebrating her one-year anniversary as on NBC's "Today," where her co-host Matt Lauer has been reporting from Iran.

Her predecessor, Katie Couric, now the anchor of the "CBS Evening News," recently returned from Iraq and Syria.

Vieira talked to "Access Hollywood" about what goes into deciding whether to take on an assignment in a war zone.

"It would be hard for me probably," she said. "It is a tough (decision to make), but I've never said 'no.' I haven't been put in that situation yet. I think that would be a difficult choice."

Vieira said she doesn't think journalists should go to a hot spot simply to establish their presence.

"I think that's a stupid reason to go, because everybody else does it," said the married mother-of-three. "I'm 53 and I'm not going to; I just don't play that game anymore."
