NEW YORK, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Comic actor Jim J. Bullock plans to return to the Broadway production of "Hairspray" -- this time playing Tracy Turnblad’s doting dad, Wilbur.

The former "Too Close for Comfort" star has previously played the roles of Harriman F. Spritzer, Principal, Mr. Pinky and Guard in the hit musical. He will take over the role of Wilbur next week from former "Leave It to Beaver" icon Jerry Mathers, Playbill.com reported Friday.

Bullock's off-Broadway and regional credits include "End of the World Party," "When Pigs Fly," "The Rocky Horror Show," "Southern Baptist Sissies" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."

He has also appeared on TV’s "Hollywood Squares," "Alf," "Seinfeld" and "Roseanne," as well as the "The Jim J. and Tammy Faye Show."
