NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- For the first time, a local New York City television station will skip the traditional reading of the names of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Instead of broadcasting the entire memorial Tuesday, WABC-TV will air its regular programming, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

All other local stations will cover the ceremony from start to finish.

"We decided to provide continuous coverage on our Digital Channel and Web site so our audience could have a choice between their regular programming and the Sept. 11 ceremony," Channel 7 news director Kenny Plotnik told The Daily News.

"We hope to be respectful to the families and serve our audience," Plotnik said. "This is not about ratings, it's about what's right."

But Bill Doyle, head of the Coalition of 9/11 Families, disagreed.

Doyle, who lost his son Joey in the attacks, said: "Why would they even think of not broadcasting the entire event? I'm going to e-mail ABC and tell them this is not right."
