LOS ANGELES, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., gained wealth in Hollywood as an actor but he may not raise much money there for his presidential campaign, a report said.

Thompson -- who has officially announced he is running for the Republican nomination for president in 2008 -- is, of course, unlikely to find much support among Democrats in the entertainment industry. But he may also have tough sledding among Hollywood Republicans, The Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has already lined up support from such Hollywood figures as actors Adam Sandler, Ben Stein, Melissa Gilbert, Kelsey Grammer and Kevin James, and producers Joel Surnow and David Zucker, the newspaper said.

"You're asking me if people here will support Fred Thompson?" longtime industry political consultant Donna Bojarsky told the Times. “How do I put it? No. No. And no."

Andy Spahn, who advises entertainment professionals on political matters, told the newspaper Thompson’s politics are “out of sync” with Hollywood.

"I think he will raise some relationship money from people who know him and have worked with him," Spahn said. "But I don't think he'll raise much beyond that here.”
