'High School Musical 2' tops album charts

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The "High School Musical 2" soundtrack has topped the U.S. album charts for a third week in a row, Billboard.com reported Wednesday.

Coming in at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 is "The Altar and the Door," the new offering from the Christian act, Casting Crowns, followed by Yung Joc's "Hustlenomics" at No. 3; Miley Cyrus' "Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus" at No. 4; and Fergie's longstanding hit, "The Dutchess" at No. 5.

Also performing well on the album charts are the "Hairspray" movie musical soundtrack, the "NOW 25" compilation disc, Atreyu's first Hollywood album, "Lead Sails Paper Anchor." and Ben Harper’s "Lifeline."

"High School Musical 2" is the first album to top the charts for three consecutive weeks since Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" did it in early 2006.

"HSM 2" sold 210,000 copies in the United States, Nielsen SoundScan said, noting sales of the disc fell 43 percent from last week.

More than 1.19 million copies of the album have been sold since its release three weeks ago.
