Heath Ledger, girlfriend split

NEW YORK, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- "Brokeback Mountain" star Heath Ledger and girlfriend Michelle Williams of New York have parted company after three years.

"It was rocky for awhile. They did what they could to make it work," a source close to the couple told People magazine, adding that the split was amicable.

The pair, who met on the set while filming "Brokeback Mountain" in 2004, had a daughter named Matilda in October 2005.
