Camilla to go to Mediterranean

LONDON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Britain's Duchess of Cornwall reportedly will take a Mediterranean vacation, getting away from the furor over her no-show at the Princess Diana memorial.

Friends said the duchess believed she was ill-advised about the event by Prince Charles and his advisers, who initially said she should attend the service marking the 10-year anniversary of the princess' death in a car crash in Paris, The Mirror reported Friday. Duchess Camilla announced about a week before Friday's memorial that she would not attend.

She spent Friday at her retreat in Wiltshire and plans to to go to the Mediterranean Sunday with a group of family and friends, the British newspaper said. Prince Charles will remain behind.

A Clarence House spokesman said private travel arrangements of the royal family are not discussed.

A source, however, told The Mirror the trip was organized "long in advance" and was not "in any way connected to her decision not to go to the memorial service."
