LOS ANGELES, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Actress Lindsay Lohan Thursday pleaded guilty in Beverly Hills, Calif., to two counts of drunk driving and will be required to serve a short jail sentence.

A judge also ordered Lohan to complete a rehab program and to spend three years on probation, TMZ.com.

Under California law, Lohan should have received a four-day period of incarceration, but the judge said he would impose 10 days of community service in lieu of half that amount of time, and credited Lohan with one day for time she spent under arrest.

The judge said Lohan -- who was not in court at the time -- she must not use drugs or associate with those who do. She must show by Jan. 18 that she has graduated from rehab.

Lohan issued a statement to TMZ.com acknowledging she is addicted to alcohol and drugs.

“Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed,” she said. “I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case.”

Lohan said she wants “to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so.”
