Memorial set to honor late Boston singer

BOSTON , Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A weekend benefit concert in Boston will honor Brad Delp, the late lead singer of the rock group Boston who committed suicide this year.

Friends and family of the late singer will be on hand Sunday to pay homage to the fallen singer on the day he had once tabbed as his wedding day, The Boston Globe said Saturday.

Delp had contacted Boston bandmate Tom Scholz early this year to say he was getting married Aug. 19, but then committed suicide in March at the age of 55.

While little has been released to the public regarding what prompted Delp to kill himself, Scholz said there are additional details that could shed light on the mystery.

"There is a much more obvious, very simple explanation that regrettably has been a common occurrence throughout history," Scholz said. "Right now, just days before this wonderful man's tribute, is not the time, however, to discuss or publicize such a personal thing."

The Globe said the "Come Together" concert will include a performance from surviving Boston members brought together through the tragedy.
