ITV exec: Portions of talent show staged

LONDON, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A senior executive at the British broadcaster ITV has admitted some scenes in the new season of the "X Factor" talent show were staged.

Paul Jackson, ITV director of entertainment, said the program's producers had used "tricks that the profession provides" to "get the story right," The Telegraph reported Thursday.

He said the show "occasionally" had to re-shoot a segment if the show's creators thought the retake was "vital to the story and put it in the proper place in the story. But we tell stories, not lies."

The admission comes as a scandal grows regarding phone-in and other scams on British television shows.

ITV is conducting an internal investigation into how a documentary was advertised as showing an Alzheimer's patient dying when, in fact, he lived for three days after the so-called death scene, the British newspaper said.
