LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Hollywood veteran Joseph Mantegna will replace Mandy Patinkin in the CBS FBI procedural "Criminal Minds," the network said.

Details about the character and his start date are unknown, Entertainment Weekly reported. Mantegna, 59, will replace Patinkin, who unexpectedly announced in July was leaving the show over ''creative differences.''

Mantegna's previous TV credits include the CBS series "Joan of Arcadia" and the USA miniseries "The Starter Wife."

Executive Producer Ed Bernero made the casting announcement last week on the Criminal Minds Fanatic Blog.
