LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Jackie Chan kicked his way back to the top of the U.S. box office heap as "Rush Hour 3" burst into the No. 1 spot, estimated weekend ticket receipts showed.
The action-laugher raked in $50.24 million in its debut, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday. That knocked "The Bourne Ultimatum," the third installment of the action series, into second place with $33.67 million..
"The Simpson's Movie " saw its sales fall by more than half to $11.13 million -- still good enough for third place.
Another new movie, "Stardust," based on the fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman and starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro, came in at No. 4 with $9.01 million.
In its third week, "Underdog" fell two spots to No. 5 with $6.46 million in sales.
Rounding out the Top 10 were "Hairspray" at $6.37 million, "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" at $5.95 million, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" at $5.39 million, "No Reservations" at $3.93 million and "Daddy Day Camp," a family-oriented summer comedy that debuted at $3.55 million.
Eliminated from the top tier were: "Transformers," "Hot Rod" and "BRATZ."
