DETROIT, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” begged off from a concert in Detroit this weekend, saying she could not take another outdoor event in the heat.
Franklin found the heat “overwhelming” at two recent outdoor concerts on the East Coast, The Detroit News reported. The Detroit concert had been scheduled for Sunday at DTE Energy Music Theater.
"I am exhausted from the heat and cannot tolerate heat in these extremely high numbers and being in concert simultaneously," Franklin said in a statement.
A new date has not been set for the concert. Tickets for Sunday should be turned in where they were purchased, the newspaper said.
Franklin spent much of her childhood in Detroit and got her start as a recording star there.
