Usher's mom didn't attend wedding

ATLANTA, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The mother of U.S. recording artist Usher did not attend his wedding to pregnant stylist Tameka Foster, People.com reported Wednesday.

A source close to the family told the magazine Usher's mother and former manager, Jonetta Patton, did not attend the ceremony, which was reportedly held at the office of the singer’s lawyer.

Instead, she spent the day at a spa in Atlanta.

The civil ceremony took place days after the couple called off the lavish, star-studded wedding they had planned in the Hamptons. Rumors have been swirling about why the plans were changed at the last minute.

Among the reasons suggested are Usher’s disapproving mom, the fact the couple couldn’t agree on wedding details and Foster's reluctance to sign a prenuptial agreement.

The source told People some of Usher’s closest friends didn’t know about the civil ceremony until after it happened.

"But that's Usher and Tameka for you. One thing one day and a whole other thing the next," they said.

The newlyweds plan to make it up to their loved ones by throwing a big bash in Atlanta in a few weeks.
