NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- One of Princess Diana's gowns, auctioned at Christie's in New York a decade ago, is set to be resold on eBay next week.

Diana auctioned off 79 of her frocks months before she died at Christie's and gave the money to charity.

As the 10th anniversary of the princess's death approaches, the WE TV network is placing one of them on eBay starting Sunday and running through Aug. 22, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

The dress is a pale-blue, silk chiffon, strapless number designed by Catherine Walker.

Diana wore the gown for the 1987 Cannes Film Festival and at the London opening of "Miss Saigon" two years later.

While the auction is open to anyone, WE plans to start the bidding at around $300,000.

The winning bid will go to America's Promise Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged kids stay in school.

"We'd love for the person who buys the dress to be somebody who recognizes all the great things that Princess Diana stood for. And hopefully, their goal is to keep Diana's spirit alive," Kim Martin, general manager of WE TV, told the News.
