BOSTON, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Fifty-nine percent of U.S. college students use online study tools to keep up with course work and prepare for exams, a new study found.
The Houghton Mifflin Company, based in Boston, said it polled 896 currently enrolled college students about their habits and found that 78 percent use online quizzing as a study tool.
Almost as popular are online course outlines that accompany textbooks, with two-thirds of students reporting they download such study aids.
Twenty-nine percent said they used video tutorials, while 24 percent said they employ online tutoring and 16 percent said they participated in online study groups.
"Online study tools are a new resource that today's wired students can take advantage of that past generations didn't have access to," said Katie Rose, head of research and marketing for the Houghton Mifflin College Division. "We're finding that students are increasingly using online study tools in tandem with their textbooks."
